What's the Virtual Privacy Office?
The Virtual Privacy Office is a contact point for all questions that Internet users have about privacy protection. It contains a large amount of articles which are made available as hyperlinks to certain privacy ressources in the internet. You will find them arranged in a systematic order and further information is added by the Virtual Privacy Office.How are the resources of information organized within the Virtual Privacy Office?
The resources are mainly accessable under three categories "Law", "Technology" and "Institutions" . Within these categories you will find a large amount of topics (i.e. "media" with regards to the category "law"). Mostly these main topics contain sub-catchwords (i.e. "Radio & TV license" within the topic "media"). All available resources are refered to one or more sub-catchwords or topics.
Additionally the contributed resources of information can be evaluated and sorted by other criteria. This is done by the heading "Information" on the left. In this category articles are evaluated from the type of their publication, e.g. glossary, FAQ or legal norm.
New articles become content of the Virtual Privacy Office if they are reported by a project partner or a co-operation partner.
What is the function of a project partner?
Project partners are the main supporters of the Virtual Privacy Office. Referring to the Rules of the Virtual Privacy Office, only institutionalized privacy protection authorities can become project partners. You can find a list with our recent project partners here. Articles or other contents, which are made available to the Virtual Privacy Office from the project partners, will be integrated without censorship, evaluation, comments or changes.What is the function of a co-operation partner?
Co-operation partner is anyone who provides the Virtual Privacy Office with information without being a project partner. Interested individuals are as welcome to participate as companies, which offer services or products concerning with data protection. The co-operation partners‘ information is not immediately visible on the website. The moderator responsible for the specific topic field decides about the integration of the information into the website of the Virtual Privacy Office. If there is no moderator responsible for the topic field the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection Schleswig-Holstein is in charge of the examination as the executive project partner. In general the delivered material will be integrated, if the contents fit into the chosen category and are not mainly used as advertisements for products, services, etc. A list of our co-operation partners is available here.
What is the function of a moderator?
Moderators are the employees of the project partners. Their job is to check the information made available by the co-operation partners and to integrate them in the website. Besides that, the moderators determine in which way the information appear within the catchword, sort outdated articles and prepare short introductions to the catchword they are entrusted with. There should be at least one moderator for each main topic and each sub-catchword. On this side you can see which moderator is assigned to each catchword.How can you contribute?
If you find an article in the internet concerning with data protection and you think it should be more appealing to the public, we would be grateful if you would e-mail us. If you are concerned with privacy at your work or in private, you are invited to join us as a co-operation partner. You will receive a Login-name and password to access and report articles by using our user friendly Login site. We plan to establish an extra site, on which our co-operation partners are invited to introduce briefly the products or services they offer.
